Sasha has everything she wants: kind housefolk who take care of her during the day and the freedom to explore the woods beyond Twolegplace at night. But when Sasha is forced to leave her home, she must forge a solitary new life in the forest. Life on her own is exciting at first but quickly gets lonely. When Sasha meets Tigerstar, leader of ShadowClan, she wonders whether she would be better off joining the ranks of his forest Clan. But Tigerstar has many secrets, and Sasha must decide whether she can trust him.

Tigerstar & Sasha—Into the Woods opens with a heartbreaking scene—a pet cat chasing after her beloved master's car after he gets sent to a nursing home that does not allow cats. Although Sasha's master has left her in the care of another owner, Sasha sadly decides to live in the woods where she discovers several clans of wild cats that have formed their own communities away from human societies. When Sasha meets Tigerstar, a handsome warrior who invites Sasha to join his Shadowclan, she starts to think maybe life as a wild cat will not be so bad. But Tigerstar is not the benevolent leader he pretends to be, and soon Sasha must decide if she should join Tigerstar's army or live the rest of her life as a homeless rogue. A prequel to the popular Warriors series, Tigerstar & Sasha—Into the Woods sends readers into a fascinating world of secret societies and feline intrigue, and is illustrated by Don Hudson's dynamic manga art. While Warriors is a highly intricate series, the original English language manga books focus more on individual cats and their stories, making them very easy for newcomers to follow. Highly recommended for cat lovers and adventure buffs. Reviewer: Michael Jung
