If you are reading this, you have uncovered one of the four hidden scrolls I have compiled about the world of Avatar. This scroll contains all of the knowledge that I have gathered so far about the Water Tribes their history and culture and the great tales of their past and present.
Katara recounts her discovery of the Avatar in the iceberg, Sokka remembers his childhood upon seeing their father's old friend, and Aang tells of his lessons with the Waterbending master in the North. The scroll also contains information about Waterbending moves, Healers, Water tribe traditions, and much more.
Keep this scroll safe, and share it only with those you trust. Beware, for there are many who wish to expose its secrets...
Children's Literature
Katara and her brother Sokka live in a world split into four nations: the Earth Kingdom, the Water Tribes, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. Within these nations there are people with the ability to manipulate their culture's native element, allowing them to bend water, fire, air, or earth to their will. For centuries, balance has been maintained by the existence of an Avatara being who can manipulate all four elementswho is reborn into every generation as a member of one of the nations. But when the Fire Nation sought to rule the world, its members killed all the Air Nomads (where the Avatar would be reborn next), ensuring that no Avatar would stand in their way. A century later, however, Katara and Sokka discover the last Airbendera twelve-year-old boy named Aangfrozen in an iceberg. They decide to help him train his Avatar abilities and free the world from the Fire Nation. Originally an award-winning Nickelodeon animated series, The Last Airbender proved very popular with audiences. The Lost Scrolls: Water retells some of the cartoon stories, interspacing each tale with background information about the Water Tribes' culture and history. While basically enjoyable, the tales gloss over many of the cartoon's action sequences, resulting in some unfulfilling climaxes. Nickelodeon also mixed aspects of many Asian cultures, including Japanese anime, Chinese martial arts, and Hinduism, to create the fictional cultures of this mythological world. They are fun to read about, yet readers would be best served by nonfiction books if they are interested in learning about actual Asian culture. Reviewer: Michael Jung
