children's Literature

inside A Handsome Binding With A Cloth Spine And Marbleized End Papers, sir Reginald's Logbook Is Sir Reginald's Diary-like Account Of His Search Through The Dangerous Jungle For The Legendary Lost Tablet Of Illusion. His Entries Appear Partially Across The Double Pages With Colored Illustrations, While On A White Portion Of A Page Is Sketched A Black And White Picture Of A Very Different, Ordinary Quest Indeed. As Sir Reginald Braves A Cave, A Viper, And Other Dangerous Jungle Creatures Through The Colored Pages In Search Of The Stolen Tablet, We Can See The Actual Search Of A Poor Old Fellow In Robe And Nightcap For His Tv Remote. Finally Finding It Stolen By His Dog, He Returns Triumphant, And Perhaps Ready For A New Adventure. Comic Scenes In Ink, Watercolors, And Pastels Create Appropriate Fantasies: A Stone Temple In The Jungle Dripping With Vines, A Giant Beetle With Gnashing Teeth, Huge Footprints Along A Jungle Path, And So Forth. All The While, The Black And White Vignettes Visualize The Realities Of These Metaphors. Sir Reginald Is A Cartoon-y Mixture Of Bumble Headed Fellow And Old Man Trying To Retain His Dignity. Perhaps Only Adults Can Appreciate The Ironic Contrasts. Reviewer: Ken Marantz And Sylvia Marantz
