Those who read this book first will spend a lot of time trying to figure out who these characters are and which one is doing the talking at any given time. In fact, it takes a while to discern who is in the club and who is not. One of the mothers makes arrangements for the girls to each have a pen pal with a mother-daughter book club in Wyoming. The Concord girls, their moms, and several other people travel to Wyoming in the last chapter (summer). References are made throughout to their current reading selection: \u003ci\u003eDaddy-Long-Legs\u003c\/i\u003e by Jean Webster. That book has some similarities to Jess's situation, with a young woman attending college, thanks to a mysterious benefactor.
