Kagawa's book easily stands alone for readers who have not read The Iron King (Harlequin Teen, 2010), but it will likely draw them in, making them want to read the first selection and eagerly anticipate the third installment in the series. While there is a solid love story present in the book, it is not merely a romance. Plenty of fight scenes and other fantastical events will make the book appeal to readers of pure fantasy as well.
