Children's Literature
Mercer Mayer has written and illustrated more than 300 children's books. Little Critter is a character he created for the story "Just for You." Little Critter has been the main character in more than 60 paperback picture books. Now, Little Critter joins the "My First I Can Read Books" series in Going to the Firehouse. In this tale, Little Critter and his classmates take a field trip to the Critterville firehouse. Fireman Joe and his dog, Sparky, give the class a tour of the firehouse. Fireman Joe teaches the students about fire safety. At the end of the field trip, Fireman Joe gives the class a souvenir, a fireman's hat. This book is excellent for parents who are encouraging their children to read independently. For teachers, Going to the Firehouse is perfect for a unit in fire safety, especially during October which is National Fire Prevention month. Going to the firehouse is a perfect companion for a trip to a local firehouse. Reviewer: Amy Orr
